In 1966, in London, Mike became the first (and for many years, only) student of Lama Yungdrung, an exiled Tibetan tulku. After years of study and meditation retreats under Lama Yungdrung's guidance, Mike was ordained a lay lama of the Kagyud lineage on New Year's Day, 1988. In 1990, Lama Yungdrung sent Mike to Poland to teach on his behalf at the "Polish National Buddhist Center", "Museum of Asia and the Pacific", and the "Collegium Minor, Jagellonian University".
In 2017, his book "Secret Drugs of Buddhism" was published. This was the first book to reveal the psychedelic nature of the Vajrayana Buddhist sacrament known in Sanskrit as "immortality" ('amrita') and in Tibetan as "demon juice" ('bDud.rTsi'). Mike subsequently received the "R. Gordon Wasson Award" for his contributions to entheobotany.
Mike currently teaches occasional classes at the San Francisco Dharma Collective and is on the national advisory board of the Psychedelic Sangha.
